Schwinn Bike Trailer Information
Schwinn as an entity has been around for 113 years. The Schwinn name has become an American icon and the company’s products are guaranteed to get your heart racing and your spirit soaring.
Founded by Ignaz Schwinn, with his partner Adolph Arnold, incorporated “Arnold, Schwinn & Company” on October 22, 1895. Within a few short years of its creation, the company became an acknowledged technical and quality leader of the bicycle industry.
In 1994, Schwinn moved from its Chicago roots to the bike-Mecca of Boulder, Colorado under new management.
In 1998, Schwinn joined forces with another leader, GT Bicycles, and formed the Schwinn/GT Corporation.
On September 11, 2001, Pacific Cycle, the nation’s largest importer of quality bicycles, purchased the Schwinn/GT Corporation out of bankruptcy court, and united the two brands with the company’s other quality lines like Mongoose, Mongoose Pro, Roadmaster and Pacific.
In 2004, Dorel Industries, Inc., a global consumer products company, purchased Pacific Cycle. Pacific Cycle now operates as a division of Dorel, and its headquarters remains in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
Within this different layer of ownership, the Schwinn brand name lives on
Today in 2009, Schwinn offers three different models of Schwinn bike trailer. These models are
Mark III Trailer – main features
• 20” alloy wheels with quick release design for easy storage
• Quickly converts to a jogging stroller with included 16” wheel kit
• Extra-wide aluminum frame design provides more space for each child
• Outrigger frame stabilizes and protects wheels
• Universal coupler attaches quickly and easily to most bikes
• Zippered weather shield provides extra protection in poor weather
• Recommended age of 1 year old
The Schwinn Mark III is one of the most affordable convertible options currently available; some other convertible trailers cost twice as much or more. If your objective is a bike trailer / jogging stroller that won’t damage your pocket, the Mark III will suit your needs . . . but don’t expect a lot of frills like a suspension system or a padded seating area.
Joyrider Trailer – main features
• Durable Domed Aluminum Frame for Roomy Comfort Includes a Swivel Wheel for Conversion to a Stroller
• Quickly converts to a Jogging Stroller with 16″ Swivel Wheel Kit (sold separately)
• Rear Storage Area Holds Extra Wheel or Personal Gear
• Zippered Weather Shield and Sunshade for Extra Weather Protection
In the world of strollers and bicycle trailers, Schwinn is a mid-range brand, and the Joyrider Trailer is their top-of-the-line offering. Schwinn bike trailer and strollers provide the essentials at a reasonable price, but quality can sometimes be an issue. At 30+ pounds, the Joyrider is heavier than most other convertible trailers, but that extra weight reflects the durability of the frame and the extra-roomy cockpit.
Trailblazer Trailer – main features
• 20” fast rolling alloy wheels with quick release design for easy storage
• Quickly converts to a stroller without using tools
• Lightweight aluminum frame design provides plenty of space for each child
• Universal coupler attaches quickly and easily to most bikes
• Zippered weather shield provides extra protection in poor weather
• 100 lbs total capacity; easily seats two
The trailblazer trailer is the least expensive of the 3 model line up.
In addition to the Schwinn bike trailer line, the company also offer 5 models of jogging strollers – the free runner double, the free runner single, the free wheeler double, the free wheeler single and the joyrider jogger.
